Devoca is expanding the capabilities of Talk’nPick WMS to include warehouse automation control. The new functionality brings manual picking areas and different automation systems together under one unified warehouse execution process. The solution improves picking efficiency, reduces unnecessary movement and enables end-to-end management of warehouse operations, from picking and packing to shipping.
Warehouses are increasingly combining various automation technologies with traditional shelf storage. Products belonging to a single customer order may be located across multiple picking zones, vertical lift modules and robotic storage systems. The challenge is making all these systems work efficiently together.
Talk’nPick WMS addresses this challenge by integrating manual operations and automation into a single, coordinated fulfilment process. The system assigns picking tasks to the appropriate areas, monitors their progress and coordinates the consolidation of partial picks before final packing.
More Efficient Warehouse Picking Through Parallel Zone Picking
With Talk’nPick WMS zone picking, order picking tasks are distributed across different warehouse areas and automation systems. Each zone handles its assigned portion of the order, while parallel zone picking allows multiple areas to process the same order simultaneously.
This eliminates the need for employees to travel across the entire warehouse to collect products for individual orders. Shorter travel distances free up more time for actual picking and enable more efficient use of warehouse resources.
Once all partial picks have been completed, Talk’nPick coordinates their consolidation into a single shipment.
Integrating Warehouse Automation Control into the WMS
Talk’nPick WMS can control various warehouse automation solutions, including vertical lift modules (VLMs), vertical carousels, robotic storage systems and automated pallet storage systems.
Talk’nPick WMS sends tasks to the automation system, while the equipment’s own control system manages their execution. Completion confirmations are returned to Talk’nPick, seamlessly integrating automated operations into the overall warehouse workflow. Different operating models can be supported, allowing efficient manual picking and automation to work hand in hand.
Integrations are implemented according to each customer’s requirements, taking into account the automation system’s operating principles and available interfaces.
For customers, this means that different automation solutions can operate as part of one unified warehouse management environment, without requiring separate fulfilment processes for each picking area.
One Shipment – Less Packaging and Better Shipping Control
The benefits of zone picking extend beyond improved picking efficiency. When products from different picking areas are consolidated through Talk’nPick before packing, the entire order can be packed as one shipment. This helps reduce unnecessary packages, packaging material consumption and potentially transportation costs.
Talk’nPick WMS supports the coordination of packing, pallet building and printing operations. Shipping can be booked through an integrated transport management system only after final packing, ensuring that accurate package details are available.
All the information employees need remains accessible throughout the entire warehouse process.
A Warehouse Management System That Enables Step-by-Step Automation
The new functionality strengthens the role of Talk’nPick WMS as an operational warehouse execution system.
Companies can begin improving warehouse operations by introducing guided manual workflows and gradually expand their capabilities through automation. Similarly, existing automation systems can be integrated into a unified process, depending on their technical capabilities.
“Talk’nPick WMS enables companies to develop their warehouse operations step by step, without having to redesign their entire warehouse management process every time they invest in automation.”
The solution complements existing ERP systems and provides unified operational control for manual work, warehouse automation and fulfilment processes – at a cost-effective investment level.
